in Reviews: Tactical Gear & Wear

As I was thinking what exactly to write about in this article, I concluded that single sentence could wrap it up nicely: "If you have more than one magazine you can't live without it." As die hard LowCap user I quickly found out that in the frenzy of combat returning magazines back in mag pouches doesn't work particularly well. Throwing them on the ground (and never finding them again) is not an option, and old, trusty method of "magazines behind the shirt" can be painful when going prone.
Dump pouches can be sorted out in two big groups: belt mounted on the belt and leg drop dump pouches. Without getting into tiresome details: leg mounted pouches do free additional space, with a price to pay (poor stability). Dump pouches are sometimes dubbed as "evidence pouches." Their usage is not simply reduced to storing spent magazines, as they can be utilized in variety of situations: carrying loose ammo, bigger pieces of equipment (NV goggles), etc.

J-Tech
I've seen couple of reviews, where reviewers sing praises to overall quality of J-Tech's equipment. This is the first J-Tech's product and I'm glad to conclude that praises are well deserved. This is one of the best tactical-related products that came out of Asia. In fact, J-Tech is constructed so well that soldiers take their products to the "Big sandbox." Which means that it meets and exceeds (if I may use this overused phrase) requirements, met in airsoft.

Company (STEADY FLYING ENTERPRISE CO., LTD) already mastered on design & manufacture of Police & military equipment for 17 years in Taiwan. We offer you full lines of products with superior and reliable quality that all police and military personnel can count on for daily or any other tactical duty. **J-TECH** is the name of our series products that we proudly introduce to you here; it consists from tactical flashlights, tactical packs, tactical vests, police gear, counter-terrorist gear and other tactical gear, MADE IN TAIWAN. Find it yourself in our website.

Construction
J-Tech Cropper 1 - Magazine Recovery Pouch is constructed form 1000d DuPont Cordura and has an elastic shock cord closure.
Opening of the pouch is covered by an elastic draw cord with cord lock and can be adjusted as needed; you can set the size of the opening as big as your magazines are- anywhere from 9mm (UZI) to 7,62 NATO (M14, G3). Upper lip of the pouch is reinforced with semi- rigid material, so it keeps its shape and doesn't deform even if you fall/go prone/roll directly on the pouch. Large drainage grommet is located at the bottom of the pouch.

What makes this product especially valuable is possibility of dual attachment. It can be attached to MOLLE canals or belt with MOLLE loops (pouch rides high) or can be attached to belt via belt attachment on the back (rides low). Both have their pros and cons- MOLLE attachment takes a lot of (valuable) real estate- attachment to belt is less stable (due to single attachment point). I personally use belt attachment and have no objections on the stability of the pouch. However, decision is all yours to make- and you have a choice.

In the boonies
This pouch holds 7 M4 30 rounds magazines, stacked either vertically or horizontally, or similar number of other magazines (checked only with UZI type magazines- 8 magazines with still plenty of room). Take your time adjusting its position and memorize it. It might sound stupid, but excercise procedure of magazine change at home. It sounds easy behind the computer but in reality... it is a wee bit harder. In short, develop muscle memory to ensure automative movement of the hand.
I was worried that magazines will rattle when only two or three are inserted. No worries- due to design feature (outer shell is from Cordura, inner pouch is from similar, but softer Nylon material) all sounds are effectively muffled.
Empty pouch flaps a little, but this comes from design. It won't bother you, but if you are that picky, look in the general direction of "roll away" pouches.

Fin
Real world quality for fraction of a price. It is rock stable. I plan to try "roll away" pouch, which is folded in small package when not in use to see in comparison, which works better. Otherwise, I was equally impressed with J-Tech's craftsmanship and overall usability of this product. I'll repeat myself with thought from the beginning of this modest article: if you use more than one magazine in conjunction with tactical vest/pouches/any kind of tactical equipment, you need quality dump pouch. And you needed it yesterday.
